Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

Turkish 201 builds on foundational skills to deepen your proficiency in modern Turkish through task-based, communicative, and meaningful learning experiences. You’ll expand your mastery of intermediate grammar (including compound tenses, complex syntax, and advanced verb forms), broaden your functional vocabulary, and refine your pronunciation and listening comprehension. Learning activities center on real-world tasks—such as negotiating travel plans, debating current events, writing feature-style articles, and collaborating on community projects—that require you to activate language creatively and confidently.

As an active member of our Turkish-language community, you’ll participate in weekly intermediate conversation circles, peer-review workshops, and tandem partnerships with native speakers. Cultural modules explore contemporary Turkish literature, film, and social issues, culminating in student-led presentations and reflective journals. You’ll strengthen your ties to Seattle’s Turkish American community through guest lectures, site visits, and volunteer roles at signature events like the Seattle Turkish Film Festival and Turfiest. These service-learning opportunities not only hone your language skills but also foster intercultural understanding and professional networking. Turkish 201 empowers you to engage authentically with Turkish speakers and prepares you for advanced study, travel, or work in Turkish-speaking environments.
