MELC Library
The MELC Library, Denny 209, has MELC reference books, faculty publications, and the Pierre MacKay collection, which includes resources on the Ottoman Empire and Medieval Islamic History. If you would like to use the library for study, please stop by the MELC office to obtain the key and instructions.
Please note that the MELC Library can only be used by MELC undergraduate and graduate students, as well as MELC faculty and staff. There will be no events scheduled in the library.
UW Library Resources
University of Washington Libraries are found at various locations campus-wide. Information about all the libraries, their collections and resources, plus access to online databases can be found on their website. Please note, however, that some online resources may not be accessible without a UW NetID.
The Near East Library provides links to useful journals, books, and encyclopedias about the Near East. Please contact our Near East Librarian Mary St. Germain (info) if you have specific questions about library holdings.
Accessing the library from off-campus
Generally, once you are logged in through MyUW, you can access many of the UW Libraries’ databases. You may also access these resources via the UW Libraries proxy server.
Proxy Library Cards
Faculty may designate one or more people as proxies, who will be issued cards allowing them to check out materials for the faculty member. Applications for proxy cards are available from the Suzzallo Library circulation desk or the library cashier. Faculty are urged to designate proxies cautiously, as the faculty member—not the proxy—is responsible for any fines or charges accrued on the card.
Purchase Request
The UW Libraries welcomes suggestions for materials which support teaching, study, and research at the University. If the UW Library does not have the book you are looking for, fill out a Purchase Request Form and your request will be referred to the appropriate subject librarian for review. Before submitting a suggestion, please check the UW Libraries Catalog to see if the material you need is available. You may also want to check the Orbis Cascade Alliance catalog to see if the material is available at another Washington or Oregon library. Orbis Cascade Alliance borrowing privileges are limited to current UW students, faculty, and staff.
