"ORAL HISTORY: IMMIGRANTS
FROM THE MIDDLE EAST"
Syllabus Description (from Canvas):
Course Overview
This course examines the rich and diverse experiences of immigrants from the Middle East through the lens of oral history. By exploring both theory and practice, students will learn how personal narratives illuminate broader socio-cultural and political contexts. The course situates oral history within debates about memory, identity, and heritage, emphasizing the ethical, legal, and methodological challenges inherent in recording and interpreting these stories. Fieldwork in local immigrant communities will provide students with hands-on experience to document lived experiences, contributing to both academic research and community heritage preservation.
