Every year, Undergraduate Academic Affairs invite students who are presenting their work at the Undergraduate Research Symposium to nominate their mentor for special recognition. A committee then selects a few awardees from among those nominees (192 this year) to honor at the symposium. This year NELC faculty Walter G. Andrews is among the 5 faculty chosen to be honored with an Undergraduate Research Mentor Award.

Walter Andrews' Newbook Digital Texts Project is one of the longest lasting Digital Humanities projects that trained more than 80 students through internships.

Walter Andrews has been working with undergraduate students through several digital humanities projects under the umbrella of the Newbook Digital Texts that is hosted by the Near Eastern Languages and Civilization. Prof. Andrews had introduced computer technology in the field of Ottoman Studies with the Ottoman Text Archive Project and currently works on the Baki project.

Dean and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Ed  Taylor, will recognize the awardees at the opening of the symposium, at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 18. In addition, UW President Ana Mari Cauce will be speaking at the welcome ceremony.
